Gasunie (2006)

Dutch gas group Gasunie commissioned ART+COM to design and realize the company’s presentation at the 23rd World Gas Conference in Amsterdam from June 5-9 2006. Via a multi user media installation, visitors were enabled to interactively gather information on Gasunie.

The extensive installation is to be found at the centre of the Gasunie stand, showing on more than 7 square meters an interactive touch-sensitive map of the Netherlands. Depicted on this map is the network of gas pipelines, one of the biggest in Europe, with which Gasunie feeds the country with energy. Intersections, blending stations as well as other work and storage facilities are marked in red on the map and, after being activated by the visitor, disclose information in text and image. These so called hot spots can also be activated through icons that circle the table border. They symbolize e.g. different methods of gas storage and processing. When touching the icons, a line will grow out to the location in the Netherlands where the processing in question takes place.

On both corners of the table, two special themes are presented. At one end, the icons are explained and presented in detail. By activating them, the network of blending stations becomes visible on the map, or the visitor may see an outlook on how the network will expand. On the other corner, Gasunie presents European aspects of its work. The Dutch gas network has unmatched storage potential for seasonal balancing. The company’s flexibility is highly important in order to avert energy shortages.

After the fair, the multi user installation has found a permanent home at the Gasunie headquarters in Groningen.
