Selux and ART+COM present visionary kinetic luminaire “Manta Rhei”
By combining cutting-edge OLED technology and mechatronics, light fixture manufacturer Selux and ART+COM have opened a new chapter in lighting. The two partners now present the first result of their exploration into "kinetic luminaires" from April 15th to 20th at the Light+Building in Frankfurt. Manta Rhei is a filigree OLEDbased fixture seemingly floating in space while continually changing its appearance.
Its 1.2m x 2.4m body housing 140 paper-thin Tridonic OLED modules combines light animation and kinetic movement into a series of carefully designed individual choreographies, one of which brings to mind the gentle movement of a manta ray. Thanks to the use of custom-built intelligent control technology the overall quantity of light emitted from the fixture remains constant.

One can select from a wide range of pre-programmed choreographies with the help of a tablet PC, so that the light mood can be adjusted to suit any space or occasion. The fixture makes use of minimalistic design language, and as a result the kinetic luminaire gives the impression of light freely hovering in space.
Manta Rhei consists of individual modules and is freely scalable.
Through the interplay of mechanic motions and dynamic light animations classical fixture typology is expanded. As a next step, and based on the initial concept study Manta Rhei, a family of kinetic luminaires will be developed.
Joachim Sauter, ART+COM's Creative Director will introduce the project together with Klaus-Peter Siemssen, CEO of Selux AG on April 18th at the Light+Building trade fair. The talk takes place at the Selux Lounge, 2 pm, Hall 3.1 B81.
